Overview
When your teeth do not fit together properly, it can be damaging to your oral health and result in jaw pain. A bite analysis is performed to determine if you have a bad bite or an occlusion disorder. To administer a bite analysis, experienced dentist Dr. Sangiv I. Patel utilizes state-of-the-art technology at his office in Melbourne, FL. This technology allows him to test the strength of your teeth and determine how much force is exerted by each individual tooth. The analysis can identify when you have an underbite, crossbite, or overbite. Additionally, we evaluate your teeth, muscles, and jaw altogether to look for any underlying difficulties that might be caused by a bad bite. If not treated properly, a bad bite can result in future problems that can be painful or debilitating. This is why it’s crucial to receive a diagnosis as soon as you notice an uncomfortable or painful bite. To have a bite analysis administered, or for any inquiries, contact our office at Sangiv I. Patel, D.D.S., PA.
Best Candidates
There are many reasons to undergo a bite analysis, such as determining if a disorder of some kind exists. Some of the most typical symptoms of malocclusion, or bad bite, include chipped, crooked, broken, or cracked teeth, pain while chewing, persistent headaches or jaw aches, an inflamed or stiff jaw, and a receding gumline. In some cases, a misaligned bite can lead to teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, which can cause further jaw pain and a loss of enamel. These symptoms of dental misalignment can also lead to temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) if left untreated.
What to Expect
Your bite analysis at Dr. Patel’s private practice will involve the use of the T-Scan Digital Bite Analysis, which is the latest device in testing for misalignment within the mouth. With a handheld device, Dr. Patel will ask you to bite down on the thin sensor as a computer records your bite, including all movements. The device will then provide him with a series of images and graphs. These images will let Dr. Patel know what is occurring, and he will be able to craft a customized treatment plan to fix your bite. Once the issues with your bite are identified, there are a few different treatment options, depending on the intensity of your circumstance. In more mild cases, a night guard is usually recommended, though some severe cases may require surgical treatment.
Follow-Up
It is important that you continue to schedule your routine dental examinations so that Dr. Patel can assess any changes in your oral health even after treatment. It’s also wise to continue to maintain a good at-home oral hygiene routine, which includes regular brushing, flossing, and the use of mouthwash.
